What an absolutely wonderful wedding! Gorgeous Jeni and Cool and Kind Vance set the scene for a picture perfect wedding at The Nixon Library. It was my honor to coordinate this wedding, with the perfect team of vendors: The Nixon Library, of course...., which is an exquisite venue and Jason's Catered Events with Jeni and Vance's perfect bites at each and every course. Shane Jordan Entertainment rocked the house (It was an easy evening with this FUN crowd!) and The California Bride provided beautiful linens, florals, and decor. (LOVED the Bride's bouquet, above all else! ) Joanne and her team from Joanne Distaso Photography provided not only beautiful shots, but made the Bride and Groom feel like they were in their living room taking casual shots... How did she do that? Her style is awesome. Wishing Jeni and Vance a lifetime of happiness... it won't be hard, with these two incredible people.

Wednesday Wedding Etiquette about Hiring your Wedding Officiant.... from Emily, Peggy, and Natalie

What's the etiquette when the officiant doesn't show up on time?

1) Make sure that your planner can perform ceremonies in an emergency.
2) Make sure that your planner has his cell number (Of course, this is Wedding 101)
3) Make sure that your planner has back up officiants.
4) Make sure that ceremony start time is confirmed. If you've signed a contract early on, double check to make sure that your officiant has the correct start time and that he/she will arrive at least 30 minutes prior to ceremony.

I had an Officiant who was late a few weeks ago... a first for Swellegant.
He was 10 minutes late and I was calm, cool, and collected on the outside. Inside, I was on to Plan B. We had planned an elegant wedding, with incredible vendors in place. The ONLY vendor who wasn't on my preferred list was the Officiant, of course. So, thankfully, Plan B was in place and my team handled it well, even though we didn't have to implement it.
Special thanks to my wedding coordinator friends (KJ, GM, and JK ) who answered my 411 calls from the wedding location. Even though I'm actually "Legal" to perform ceremonies in California, I have ZERO interest in doing so.... your officiant is personally YOURS.

The wedding ceremony went beautifully, and no one, including the Bride and Groom, family, and guests even knew that he was late. I did have a quiet conversation with that officiant after the ceremony was complete. I know that telling him I wanted to pinch his ear HARD because he didn't call me to let me know he was going to be late was bad etiquette. I didn't care.

After that wedding, I consulted Emily Post 1957 and Peggy Post 2006 again, to see what they had to say about hiring vendors. (Although, when the Officiant wasn't there as scheduled, Emily and Peggy weren't standing next to me, but I thought of their grace) Sorry, I digress.

Here's what Peggy and Emily Post have to say about the folks you hire:

LOVE love love what Emily says about employees. "It stands to reason that one may expect more nearly perfect service from a Specialist than from one whose functions are multiple. There is an inexplicable tendency, in this country certainly, for working people in general to look upon ....service as an unworthy ...degrading vocation. However, it is the highest form of service."

Peggy Post, in her 2006 Wedding Etiquette book, comments about different vendors and offers checklists for choosing your vendors... super helpful!

Emily Post 1957..."The fee of the clergyman may range anywhere from ten dollars to one or two hundred dollars, according to the means of the groom and the importance of the wedding."

Peggy Post 2006... " Site Specific.Each member of your wedding ceremony will be paid according to the site rules."

Natalie 2011...Ask your Officiant up front about their specific fees. In terms of Gratuity for your Officiant: "$50-300in addition to fee is awesome..Not often considereda “tip” If you have a relationship tothis person, it may be given as a gift to the place of worship."

Better late than never! Wanted to share one of our very cool weddings from last summer. Stephanie and Neil were SO much fun, and gorgeous, too! I loved working with them, and their dream team of vendors.

Stephanie, who grew up in Orange County California, met Neil, originally from New Zealand, when they attended UC Santa Barbara. Their goal while planning their wedding with me was to create a warm environment for both families. It was important to have a hassle free weekend for the over 50 out of town guests.

The couple wanted a beautiful location that incorporated their Catholic traditions – they chose Holy Family Cathedral in Orange, CA for their ceremony and The Richard Nixon Library in Yorba Linda, CA for their reception.

Amazing fried candy bars and mini donuts from Shelly at The Fry Girl. YUM-O. The Awesome Bar Mitzvah Mom created her very own candy station in the Turquoise and Red colors of the party. Love rules... and guidelines...with a light-hearted touch. So, I'm sharing with you, a little Wednesday Wedding Etiquette. I hope to keep this going for a while, so stay tuned!
From 1957 to 2010, a few things have changed.
Rule #1:
1957 by Emily Post: "The first fact to remember is that all the expense of a wedding belong to the bride's Parents."

No bride wants to meet their Wedding Coordinator for the first time on their wedding day. That's why a "Day of Coordinator" is a novice idea.

Fellow Wedding Vendors and Wedding Couples in Southern California:

Having a Wedding Coordinator will be incredible for all of you.

I love Professionals and I love Brides and Grooms. Plain and Simple. Being in the Event Business for many years, I know that all Brides and all Professional Vendors appreciate a Professional Coordinator.
Being a Board Member of the ABC-OC luncheon today, I listened. I know the value of what I do, but I was able to listen to fellow coordinators who have been in the business for a very long time to say, "Let's make this the best wedding possible for our clients! Let's work together... let's refer the best locations, the best vendors."

THE MOST IMPORTANT DETAILS OF THE WEDDING are taken care of by your coordinator. A coordinator of substance usually doesn't say: "I'm a DAY OF coordinator". A coordinator who cares about your wedding offers you several levels of service, with the basic level of service being around 1 - 2 months before your wedding. No bride wants to meet someone for the first time on their wedding day.
Here are important questions of the most important day of your day:

Who knows YOU? Bride and Groom?
Who will run your wedding rehearsal with ease?
Who do you trust to carry out your vision on your wedding day?
Who creates the master timeline of the day?
Who knows your family... and knows how to negotiate the nuances of your family's dynamics?
Who greets vendors and makes sure that all vendors on the same page?
Who will make sure that all contracts from your vendors are carried out?
Who will coordinate load-in and load-out?
Who will make sure that you have a personal bridal assistant?
Who is making sure that all of your personal items are taken care of?
Who will provide advise on wedding etiquette?

Kimberly and Jared: Love is in the Air at The Richard Nixon Library

What an incredible couple who were fun, fun, fun! All during the planning of her wedding, Kimberly was an absolute doll. Jared was a true Gentleman. I was lucky to be able to assist them in creating their perfect day. She was all smiles throughout the ceremony. The weather was gorgeous, and the sunset was awesome.

Raspberry pink, soft coral and bright green bridesmaids dresses surrounded the glowing bride. Cantina Light Photography captured the complementary colors of the bouquet, matched to the shimmery dresses of the bridesmaids.The bridal party looked like models, and the groomsmen were not hard on the eyes by any means.

The East Room was set to perfection by Jason's Catering as guests enjoyed a delicious dinner fit for a king. Tables were strewn with tall centerpieces arranged in glass vases, decorated with glistening dangling crystals by the talented Jenny B Floral Designs. She's always great to work with! Jason Jazz from Visions Entertainment had the room rockin', even though it was a Thursday Evening wedding. These guests knew exactly how to party!

Best of all? Jeremy, Kim and Jared's perfect baby.

Real Wedding: Brian & Katie at the Surf & Sand

Brian and Katie were married in July on the sand next to thesurf at the Surf & Sand.

Thegroom’s charcoal suit complemented the bride’s ivory boatneck classic gown.Various shades of blue (from tiffany to steel) and brown brightened theceremony and reception.

Katie and Brian have more creativity than anyone Iknow…and it showed in every detail, beginning with the invitations. Ian from Red Shoe rocked the house! Awesome to reconnect with him. The beach wedding,the cocktail hour on the patio, and the ballroom reception at Surf & Sand were perfect thanks tothe one and only Sandy. Swell details captured by Jack Randall Photography were:their clever table numbers (hilarious quotes from Seinfield), the couple’s dogas the ring bearer, watching the guests’ toes in the sand, and the absolute love that Katie andBrian have for one another.

Hannah’s Street Faire!

Start with an adorable Mitzvah young lady.

Add well-behaved, hip teenagers and parents who were gracious hosts and guests. Hold at an awesome Laguna Beach venue: Seven Degrees and serve wonderful food = This was one of my favorite Mitzvahs in a long time. The guests were grinning ear to ear as they left this party…. I heard more than once, “WOW. That was awesome!”

I was honored to be involved with a swell event this past weekend. I blogged about "Culinary Delicacies of Spain, a Tapas Party" two weeks ago. Kudos to Valley High School School Inc. program in Santa Ana for breaking the mold in public education. Because, in my busy days as an Event Planner, I always want to mentor those who are interested in food, events, and happiness. :)

The fundraiser for High School Inc. was held on Friday, September 10, 2010 at the Hilton Anaheim. Chef Messinga, Executive Chef at the Anaheim Hilton, was incredibly generous at every step of the way. With 150 attendees, over $8,000 was raised for our Extreme Kitchen Makeover.
Great for a grassroots effort !

The Culinary Arts and Hospitality Program at Valley High School in Santa Ana, is where tenth to twelfth grade students are being trained to enter the workforce and begin a career in the food and customer service industries in Southern California.The teenagers at Valley High inspire me. At your next event, if you happen to see someone who is with me who has very bright eyes, it will be one of the incredible Culinary Arts Students at Valley High, who is shadowing or mentoring me.

JOIN ME IN HELPING OTHERS! I am the High School Inc. Culinary Arts and Hospitality Champion. As the chair of the Academy, I am the Emcee for "Culinary Delicacies of Spain, a Tapas Party" being held on Friday, September 10, 2010, at 6:00 p.m. at the Hilton Anaheim for the High School Inc. Culinary Arts & Hospitality Program. This is a first-time fundraiser to modernize the kitchen on the campus of Valley High School, home of High School Inc. Restaurateurs, executive chefs, and business owners have inspected the kitchen and have lent their support for an "Extreme Kitchen Makeover."

The High School program was adopted in a partnership with the Santa Ana Unified School District and the Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce to blend education with work & college training in seven industries. The High School Inc. program has been a hit with students, but the Culinary Arts & Hospitality Program has a great need to upgrade its kitchen.

Megan and Tim: A Night to Remember

The perfect evening: beautiful sunset, a fairy tale castle upon a hill, and a gorgeous bride walking down the aisle. Swellegant Events loved the couple and their family. Natalie and her team are always happy to help make the Bride and Groom's Vision become a reality! The Carbon Canyon home was beautifully decorated with floral arrangements courtesy of Avante Gardens in hues of turquoise and orange Joel from http://www.emausphoto.com/ was amazing as usual... check out the pics in this blog... they're only a tiny picture of his talent. The tables were sprinkled with flower petals swirling lightly in the wind, and the rock steps of the pool were lined with beautiful bouquets. The pool was surrounded by Extreme DJ with a dance floor on one side and Red Carpet Photo Booth's fun display of costumes on the other for guest to embrace their inner selves. As the couple kicked off the dancing, the soundtrack to the night had many dancing for hours with a great blend of old and new favorites. With dinner from Jason's Catered Events, nothing short of perfection was present. To wrap up the magical evening, a candy and cupcake display from Patty's Cakes and Desserts was arranged around the outdoor bar, exciting adults even more perhaps than the children as all filled their bags with sweets. With mini cupcakes, who feels guilty eating three, maybe four when no one's watching? With the organized crew of PPS Parking running valet, traffic ran smoothly as guests arrived and left this special event. As all vendors worked together, the scene was a sea of smiles and laughter all night long. Totally cool favor idea... donations to The American Diabetes Association. A dream wedding for all.

Once in a while, I take a night off... and have some serious fun while supporting a wonderful cause! What a blast we all had being PINK LADIES at the Human Options Fundraiser at Balboa Bay Club. Special thanks to my friend, Laura, who organized the evening. An incredible worthy cause, Human Options deserved all that the evening brought to the organization.

A quote from The Daily Pilot: "An impressive $435,000 was raised at the "Serious Fun Party" produced by Human Options. The Balboa Bay Club & Resort, Newport Beach, was the setting for the 1950s "Happy Days"-themed event.

The crowd wore vintage clothes. Some women were in poodle skirts and saddle shoes and some men in lettermen's sweaters. Other ladies chose to show off a little upscale '50s attire, wearing vintage dresses accessorized with the mandatory choker of pearls and the upswept hair of the period. "

Hey Fellow Chocolate Lovers!
You need to know Luisa. She's one of a kind , and if you are lucky enough to have event favors from Luisa the Chocolatier, Yum-o. Delish. The O word. (Oops. That's not politically correct, but I had to toss it in.) The kind of chocolate your guests will savor, not toss out . I have this saying about event favors... the favor should be either edible or usable. Luisa's chocolates are BOTH. Enough of my digressions.
Let's chat about Luisa. She's old school. Only works by referral. Doesn't know what a blog is. That's one of the reasons I love her. But, really.... her chocolate is enough to love her.

From my trusted colleague, Luisa..."Everything we make is made by hand. We don't have machines (I wish I had). The shape items: crocodiles, hearts, ballerina slippers, pacifiers, baby carriages, wedding cakes, etc.
Everything is done by hand, by order. After we mold each item we clean it, brush it, paint it if requested and trim by hand either in cellophane or in a box. All this hand work is qualified as artisanal."
On this photo you will see some "hand dipped truffles" and some "hand molded" truffles. The top layer are hand dipped.

Very few chocolatiers hand dip truffles these days. We are one of the last houses that does this job on the West Coast. Most of the chocolate stores buy little chocolate "balls" and they fill them with truffle. We don't do that. We pipe our centers by hand and then we hand dip them. These are our finest product.
I make my ganache using real cream and butter as I learned in school in France and as I did at the pastry and chocolate store I apprenticed. I don't make shortcuts. We don't buy pre-made truffle mix from any company.
My flavorings are real: we use real fruit purees for the fruit truffles,real ground nuts for the nutty , etc. etc.
I don't advertise. Do a good job and the people will do the marketing for you.
I work mainly by referral. It has work well for me for 15 years."

Wedding Clients often ask me, "Why do I need a video?" or... "I'm not sure I can afford a videographer. What do you think? First of all, let me say how much I enjoy working with you. I look forward to our next event.
I have wanted to share a few thoughts for some time now regarding my industry, wedding videos. One of the most common comments I hear is from clients is "Our wedding day came and went by so fast, we hardly ever saw you, and we are so glad that you captured so many great moments."

By having a wedding videographer, he or she may capture moments that you may not have seen. Videographers also have a unique way of telling your story. Your wedding video will help you remember how you felt when getting ready, show you and your husband reciting your wedding vows during the ceremony, and give you another glance at your friends and family as they enjoy the wedding reception. The biggest difference video has from the still photos is the sound and motion. Together the expressions, voices and music bring back the moment like nothing else.

It is a beautiful thing to be able to bring "life" back into the beautiful images of the day.

Yes. That was the sunset in Puerto Vallarta last Wednesday evening.

Aahhh. Just back from Puerto Vallarta where I was checking out the city compliments of NH Hoteles and Tour Vallarta!! No wonder Puerto Vallarta has been rated by Conde Naste as "the friendliest city in the world and "Among the top 10 safest cities in the world." by USA Today. Absolutely So! From the moment I arrived at the airport until the moment I left, I had a magical week. If you're thinking about going to Mexico for your wedding, I've got some incredible spots, vendors, and totally swell ideas to make your destination wedding into a dream come true. Zip lining down the mountain. Private Island Sunsets. Let the photos speak for themselves... Special thanks to Nora Martinez from NH Hotels, Hardy Klahold Photography for the great photos, and Jorge Nunez from Tour Vallarta.

Loved spending time with the coordinators from Southern California... Imagine a Dove Release on the Beach... and a bunch of uber extroverts telling our wedding stories. Ok. You get the idea. Don't want to make you jealous. I do have an awesome job.

Imagine a wedding in Our Lady of Guadalupe in downtown Puerto Vallarta.... partying through the night in a tent on the beach (If you're a bride and groom looking here, know this: I was there in "Rainy Season"... a few drops of rain here and there... and so the two sides of the tent were covered to protect the musicians. Normally? Imagine the sunset in the background.

The day before... or the day after your wedding? Zip Lining or The Rhythms of the Night Show... two incredible activities. PS. I was only terrified for ONE of the lines... the rest were incredible one of the ten best activities of my life.

Since 1998, I've been amused reading Beloit's College Mindset List (I know. I know. You have already been receiving mass emails about this year's list) This year, however, the list just came out, and coincidentally, I'm moving Joey Vishny, my incredible (OK. I'm his Mom. I know I have to say that. But, really, Incredible guy!) back into University of Arizona. Painting rooms. Staying in a great hotel (need my creature comforts) and reading USA Today. GO WILDCATS!

Just home from the monthly ABC (Association of Bridal Consultants) event at The New Shoreline Hotel in Huntington Beach. Incredible location... cool, hip, swanky feel. Great food. Awesome service. For those of you out there that are looking for a clean, interesting location just steps away from Main Street and the beach, that's the spot! Check it out.
That led me to thinking about what creates an incredible event: engaging your five senses! It's a great roadmap for your event. See the venue. Imagine the smell and taste of incredible food. SIGHT? Remember: People see things in a pyramid shape in general. At an event, they see things in an abbreviated pyramid. They're at a party! What they see is what is lit... that's why lighting is uber important.

SMELL? (My favorite~ that's why it is capitalized) No gardenia flower candles when you're serving filet or lamb . Home baked cookies or a candy station on the way out? Amazing. TASTE? This is the opportunity for you to show your personality!!! Don't be afraid to pick something out of the norm. Even the best chicken is... well.. gulp.... chicken. (OK. I admit it. Good chicken is good chicken. Don't feel bad if you've chosen chicken for your party.) Thinking outside the box? The In and Out Truck. The

SOUND? One of the most powerful senses that we have. Music is the backbone to an event. Mariachi? Steel drums? Gospel Choir? Yes. Yes. Yes. This another place when you can show your personality. Dinner? Keep it to background music. Kick it up 14 notches when you're rockin after dinner.

TOUCH? Very important. So many different options to have . Nothing better than a well starched linen.

Bridezillas?? What's up with these Reality TV Shows?

So, it's a Sunday morning right after an incredible wedding at Star Ranch in Corona. What an incredible couple... what a magical place.

So, what does an event coordinator do on a Sunday after a swell Saturday wedding? I'm watching Bridezilla, the show that everyone references at almost every wedding that I coordinate. People ask me: "Do you have any bridezillas?" My answer: "No."
That's what a coordinator does... anticipating conflicts and taking care of them before they even arise.
So have you watched that show? What's up with these women??? Seriously, who wants to be on that show? After fast forwarding through three shows (thank goodness for Cox on Demand) I realize one thing: Couples need a wedding coordinator. Forgotten wedding licences, catering fiascos, brides that have no idea what they're doing at their rehearsals, no timelines or pre-wedding calls to vendors, tears, screaming, and more tears. Reality TV at its finest.
My advice? Hire a coordinator, sweet brides, even if you're not a Bridezilla.

CHAMPAIGN/URBANA ILLINOIS! On the heels of my busy June wedding season in Southern Cal, I took off to the corn fields to a wedding of a former favorite student of mine. Planes, trains, and automobiles to get to my old college town (Go ILLINI!) of Champaign, IL. Going back to my roots to remember my teaching days right of college. Thanks for the warm welcome, LaBrecques. The reception at the top of the U of I stadium was unbelievable. Eye candy, baby!

A few tips for my wedding couples at the beginning of your planning processes:

Think outside the box! Reception Sites don't have to be in hotel ballrooms... even in Southern Calfornia. We can transform any location to create your dream day. When you're at a cool location, so much less decor has to be brought in.

How much is this Party Going to Cost Me? Answers for my Swell Social Clients

The big question. It always happens. At an initial consultation for an event, "How much is this event going to cost me?" My question back is, "Would you like a complete detailed budget to work with?" Sometimes people say, "No way. Just do your stuff, Ms. Swell." Other times, people say (with a uber serious face) , "I need full disclosure." Happy to work either way.

Because, in reality, how much your event is going to cost...depends on you. There is no specific price when it comes to weddings and events. Right now, I'm working with a bride and groom, their families, and a crew of volunteers, using a beautiful outdoor venue, planning the best night of their lives, on a shoestring budget. On the other hand, I’ve also met folks who have said, “The sky’s the limit” and had party after party that no guest would soon forget. (BTW, it's all in the details. )Your budget will completely depend on you.

When you’re setting your budget, here are some key points to keep in mind:

· How much cash do you have hidden in your closet? (OK. If you're still reading, then you

know that I have a quirky, fun sense of humor.) Really, though. How much do you have

ready to dole out?
· How much are you prepared to spend, once you see the endless possibilities?
· What are the essentials for your event?
· What areas are you willing to compromise on?

To get a more specific estimate of what your event will cost, I suggest considering each expense that goes into an event and realistically pricing out how much you are willing to spend. It's something we all do at Swell with our full-service clients, but check out The Knot's Online Budgeter . It's is a great tool (specifically for weddings... but can be used for other events, as well) for finding an estimate on what each aspect of your wedding should be costing based on your budget.

Budgeting is aaaarrrggghhh.... sometimes, a difficult thing to do. When you are dancing that first dance as Mr. and Mrs., or you're heading out after an incredible anniversary, mitzvah you will be glad that you went through all the hard stuff to get to your moment. Also, keep in mind, if you are going to hire a wedding coordinator, some packages do include budgeting help, so make sure you look into that when you go for your initial consultation.

To Twitter or Not to Twitter... That is the Question

Ok. This whole Twitter website thing... what's it all about? I need to know. This week, I emailed one of my friends and said, "I will never ever twitter. Ever. Who wants to know that I'm at the gym... or, even better yet, in the dentist's chair? My clients could care less about that."

When I was up at UCSanta Cruz visiting one of my college kids, I asked he and his buddy, "What do you know about Twitter??
They seemed totally cool without the fact that they were missing twittering. Maybe it's because they have cooler things all around them all day... like deer on the way to class and wildflowers outside their dorms. Oh, and don't forget the ocean and that really incredible meadow. Sorry. I digress. Way too much personal information for my clients.

And then, lo and behold, I received this email from my Gen Y colleague, Kent Healy, from Cool Stuff Media:
"I admit it, I've done it now...I can't get by one day without someone asking me if I'm on Twitter. I've picked up the hint and created an account."

Let your Holidays Sparkle… without Breaking the Bank!

I’m watching the election results as I write this blog…no matter what way you voted...It’s Time for a party! We’re all ready to think about our holiday parties in a new way.

We’ve all experienced it. The time when we really want to host a party, but we feel as if we don’t have the money at the moment. Contrary to popular belief, it doesn’t have to cost a fortune and cutting financial corners does not mean you have to sacrifice the amount of fun your guests will have at your bash!

Here are some great tips that will help you host a fabulous get-together:

1) Do what you love. When you’re happy, your guests will be happy. Do you love to cook but despise cleaning? Hire someone to take care of the aftermath of the party. Do you hate cooking? Pick up from your favorite local restaurant.
2) Create an affordable theme. Instead of hosting a glitzy over-the-top party this year, think about alternatives: a cookie exchange with your friends, an evening of soup, rustic bread, and caroling; a cocktail party with the nearest and dearest in your lives.
3) Don’t mail the invitations. Hand create an invitation, use an evite, or connect with your friends the good old fashioned way… by phone.
4) Go eclectic! Mix and match your Grandma’s silver with your contemporary bowls. The trends in catering use a variety of décor items on every buffet.
5) Give up on paper goods. In almost all cases, using china and glassware that you own is less expensive than heading to the local party store.
6) Think …borrow… and buy ahead. The month of November is full of sales on all types of party goods. Borrow serving items from your friends and neighbors. Having a list when you ask from your neighbors or enter a store is like going to coffee with a friend. Comfortable.
7) Toasting? Absolutely! Have a specialty drink of the evening instead of a full bar! Greet your guests at the door with a greeting station with your favorite drink.
8) Choose food, flowers and décor for the season. Ask your favorite caterer, florist for the least expensive items in November and December. Use them everywhere. If you’re cooking, follow the store ads and buy items that are inexpensive. Make lists. They’re your best friends for the moment.
9) Imagine yourself in your own home and create a timeline for the day. That will help you create your last minute lists!
10) Enjoy your guests. The best host and hostess are calm and collected…know that opening your home is the greatest gift of all.

A Swell Event, Indeed. Amazing Things happened when I let go of an Event and Let the Experts in my Event World Take Over.

Hosting my own party to celebrate my new site seemed... at first glance, like an interesting idea. I'm never one to shy away from a fun evening! Now that the party is over, I am blown away by the support from everyone in my world. Working by referral for six years with no site for my clients to view was pretty incredible. It was time and Swellegant Events took on a life of its' own. And, so, I hosted a celebration to toast many of the people who have helped me forage my way into the event business, and to thank my family and friends for their support.

First on the scene ... a surprise to me, and an incredible gift, was the talented and award winning photographer, Marc Weisberg. Generous with his talent and praise, he captured the evening beautifully. My overwhelming thanks to him.

Amazing things happen when you let go of an event and let the experts take over.

Jason and Adriana and everyone from Jason's Downtown hosted the event with signature Funky Monkey Cocktails (among others!), artisan cheeses, and customized tray-passed appetizers, as they always do for all of their clients. Jason, my friend, and colleague, never fails to suprise me with his ability to pull off an incredible event. Adri, you're a gift to the industry.

Gerry Robinson, a Hollywood Favorite entertainer, The Party Song Maker showed up and let everyone relax because of his talents. Who thinks in rhymes ? Unbelievable.

I smiled when I saw calm Kelly down the street.. That's Kelly Aguilar, from Social Butterfly Inc. Her generosity of spirit and knowledge is always appreciated.

Other friends appeared with their unique talents, and I toasted with them. Jen Siglin, expert web designer, from Laughing Beagle made the evening possible because of her great website work and Brandi McNaughton from Girl Friday Designs provided incredible graphics. Tim, the King of the Universe, from BTB Events didn't do a stitch of work, and that's exactly what I wanted. Irma and Joseph, you're the balloon artists, no doubt. Tina Murphy, expert videographer from A Motion Video provided video footage for my site, with patience and grace.

No party is complete without incredible sweets. Luisa, Goddess from Luisa Chocolatiere and my favorite ladies from Some Crust allowed everyone to enjoy decadent treats. Clients, if you are ever in need of sweets, they are the best in the business. I'll head to the gym this week thinking of them.

The incredible team from YSBD drove from the valley for a toast. Unbelievable. Rory, you are more than an incredible MC and DJ. You're a hottie with that blonde hair. Mary and Mike, thank you for your ethical and honest way of treating clients.

And finally, the biggest toasts of all went to Vish, Hanna, and my loyal clients and friends. Thanks for your belief in me.

Five Weddings and a Funeral.

Events are what my life is about! When someone in my business world and extended community needs me, I look forward to the call to assist in creating a perfect day.

My September 2008 was filled with my favorite events of all... WEDDINGS. 5 Full Coordination Jobs in all.... all beautiful brides, all incredible grooms. I love giving inside tips to grooms before the wedding day (my special surprise to brides!) , fluffing the dresses and calming the nerves of brides as they walk down the aisle, and helping the families and friends of the bridal couple make the most of the day. ( I especially love Mothers of the Brides and Grooms... having the perspective of a 45 year old woman. ) I take great pride in leaving a reception site with brides often saying to me, "I had no idea how much I needed you."

My wedding bag which includes everything from Tylenol to Duct Tape, takes care of every imaginable emergency! After the wedding, I take great happiness in receiving emails from married couples showing me their ultrasound photos, their baby pictures, and inviting me to birthday parties of their children.

And, I realize the importance of weddings and marriage, even more deeply, the longer I am married. 22 years...to be exact. And also, because of a funeral I attended this month of a happily married young man, I know that life is short. Knowing his bride and knowing her heartache reminded me of the fleeting time we have here on earth.

I will attempt to update when and where I can.

My first item of business is to thank all of my colleagues who have supported my venture into Swellegant Events. After six years of being in the business, and having the most incredible referral clients, I knew it was time to go live.

Special thanks to Jen Siglin, my web designer! Her patience with me went beyond measure. Special thanks also to Brandi McNaughton of Girl Friday Designs for her graphics work... amazing! For all of the contributing photographers, a huge thank-you to you, as well! Couldn't have put together this site without you., Most importantly, a special thank-you to my clients who allowed me to showcase small parts of their events on my site... no photos on a site can ever capture your event memories, but I hope that reliving a bit of your event on my site brings a smile to your face.

And, finally, a thank-you to my family. My sister and brother, who were my unpaid editors, but the most truthful, provided incredible advice, thank you. It all begins and ends with family.
